And did I said its free.
This is a great place to learn local history in this West Texas town. Good exhibitors and friendly people make this destination one place you don't want to miss.
We enjoyed our time visiting all the different museums. We were the only ones there and the caretaker opened the doors for us. She was very knowledgeable on any questions we asked. We were very impressed because she did it all. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience.
Growing up right down the street from here, friends and I would ride bikes to the barrel and have a blast... this was the 70's though. Great memories!
I lived in Monahans from 1973 to 1974 and as an adventurous 8 year old, I and my friends would frequent the Million Barrel site and ride down the sides of the bowl on pieces of cardboard--sort of a Texas sledding experience. It was atrocious then--a common dumping spot for tires, garbage, old appliances, etc...I am glad to see it is preserved...some fun memories then.....
It's a must see in the area, the guide is so nice to tour us around and tell historical stories. The rooms are AC cooled to give a good feeling when the sun is up and high.
